Current events:
BBEDC is currently doing pilot program with chilling of fish at point of harvest. In 2002 BBEDC supplied about 50 fishermen with slush bags. The slush bags hold a mixture of ice and water. A second brailer is put inside the slush bag that holds the fish and allows the chilled water to chill the fish. BBEDC is currently expanding it pilot program into the 2003 season in improving the delivery of the ice to fishermen, chilling medium and involve more fishermen.
BBEDC Regional Fisheries Development committee is researching quality and handling standards that would beneficiary to Bristol Bay fishermen.
