Training
BBEDC places a high priority on fisheries related educational programs and we will generously support and encourage any resident to excel in fishery careers. However, there is a big demand for assistance in non-fishery related training and BBEDC has responded to that demand by increasing our non-fishery budget.

BBEDC works closely with the Bristol Bay Campus to provide training in the villages. We realize the importance of brining training to the village and to the people. BBEDC's sponsorship is responsible for the majority of local village based training programs such as computer basics, marine survival, basic supervision skills, and money management. These programs help prepare residents for good jobs and/or more advanced training opportunities in their future.

Vocational/Technical Training Program
The focus of this program is to maximize Bristol Bay CDQ village’s workforce potential by supporting residents who are interested in advancing in vocational education.

This is done in two primary ways. The first is vocational scholarships to individual residents planning to attend training. Students fill out an application and E/T staff score it the score determines the exact amount an individual qualifies for. BBEDC will assist with Tuition, Fees, books, travel, and room and board.

The second way BBEDC has of vocational funding is to fund classes put on by the University system in the region and funding classes put on by SAVEC. When BBEDC funds these classes it does two primary things one it allows the number of students taking the class be less then normally required by the campus and secondly it drives down the actual cost of the tuition for the class down for the student. At this time all class funded are deemed either commercial or sport fishing related.

Adult Basic Education and General Education Diploma (GED)
"We want all of your resident to the and equal opportunity to get their GED."
BBEDC is a contributor to the Adult Basic Education/BED program at Bristol Bay Campus. We feel these basic skills are crucial to success and want to put as much emphasis on this program as we possibly can.

College Development Fund
BBEDC College Development Fund is for the part time students enrolled in a degree program through the University of Alaska System. BBEDC is aware that the cost of education even for the part time student can be unaffordable to many residents. With many higher paying professional positions going to people outside of the region, BBEDC saw the need to help further educate our residents. This program allows for up to $1000.00 per semester to qualified applicants for tuition, fees and books. This makes higher education more affordable to part time students who must balance a job and school. BBEDC recognizes the need to help Bristol Bay Residents who are working and who are attending school to pursue a college education and diploma.

The College Development Fund was started in 2003 to provide funding to BBEDC residents that are enrolled in a degree program through the University Of Alaska. This program provides up to $1000 per semester to qualified BBEDC residents in our CDQ communities.

BBEDC recognizes that there are a high percentage of higher paying professional positions going to people who are not full-time Bristol Bay residents.

The College Development Fund pays for the cost of Tuition, books, and other costs associated with post secondary studies.
