The central BBEDC office is located in Dillingham
with a satellite office in Anchorage, which houses
the Fisheries Quota Manager and the Seafood Investment
Officer. See Staff.
BBEDC philosophy is to provide local residents and
communities with the tools to develop fisheries related
economic development at the community level. BBEDC
focuses on providing local entrepreneurs with the
skills to own and operate seafood related businesses.
Funds are also available to communities to help design
and construct fishery related infrastructure.
Here are a few of the programs provided by BBEDC for
local residents and communities:
- Bering Sea groundfishing jobs
- Harvey Samuelsen Scholarship Program
- Basic and Advanced Vocational funding
- Internship programs in Bristol Bay and in Seattle
- Technical Assistance - business plans/feasibility studies
- Infrastructure and Seed Funds
All BBEDC community programs require a letter or resolution of support from both the governing City and Tribal entities.
BBEDC has strict residency requirements for all its programs. Two forms must be completed to prove BBEDC residency. The forms are attached to the individual program applications at www.bbedc.com/applications/index.php
All BBEDC investments and programs must be approved by the State of Alaska and the National Marine Fisheries Service. Please go to www.dced.state.ak.us/bsc/CDQ/cdq.htm to learn about the CDQ program and the role of government oversight.
BBEDC provides funding to each community to hire local community liaisons who acts as "eyes and ears" for the BBEDC. The liaisons provide the central office with the means to communicate with local residents and to provide services at the local level. Please see __________ for a listing of the community liaisons and their local contact information.
